The Irish enduro season is heating up with two strong riders Meave Baxter and Michelle Muldoon battling it out again for the top spot in the Pro Women’s category.
At the second round of the Gravity Enduro Ireland Series, Baxter made it two wins from two starts and adding in her First Tracks Enduro Cup win the previous weekend at Bigwood means she’s on a roll.
On form in Mt. Leinster, Baxter narrowly took first place again by two seconds. With less than four seconds separating the two riders on Stages 1, 3 and 4, Stage 2 proved to be the decider with Meave taking a 10 second lead.
“I’m so glad to race Mt Leinster in the dry,” told Meave. “There was amazing work done on the trails and as always a wonderful event was run by Niall and his biking.ie crew. It was great to see a podium for Caitriona too — even if she did show up an hour late!”
Runner-up to Maeve, Michelle tells how she got on on the Mount Leinster trails…
“It was another weekend of super tight racing against Meave Baxter, who got me again — this time by two seconds after 24 minutes of racing!
“We fought hard on each stage and even though I bagged three stage wins, Meave’s awesome bike handling skills on Stage 2, the toughest track of them all, gained her a 10-second advantage on me, which was enough to take the win.
“I finished every stage with nothing left in the tank, with both leg burn and arm pump — it was one of those races where winter interval training really pays off!”
Ruth Doorley rounded out the Pro Women’s podium, steadily gaining stronger results over the season.
In the closely fought Women’s category, Catriona Brady took first place, winning all but one of the stages. Aoife Cannon took second and one stage win, with Leah McCarthy 14 seconds behind in third.
