A last minute venue change will see the popular Bike Park Ireland in Tipperary host the National DH Championships on July 21/22.
Originally PLUSHmtb were planning to hold the event in Co. Down but despite some solid months of course building have had to cease preparations due to issues with the landowner.
Stepping in, Bike Park Ireland will now run it.
The Irish Downhill Mountain Bike Series issued this statement below, following the announcement from PLUSHmtb…
Bike Park Ireland to host National DH Champs
(Posted 3rd May 2018)
I am delighted to announce that following PlushMTB’s late withdrawal from hosting this year’s DH Champs due to venue issues, Graham Kenny and Bike Park Ireland in Roscrea, Co. Tipperary have stepped up to the mark and agreed to host this years championships on 21/22 July supported by Chain Reaction Cycling Club.
I am sure everyone will join me in thanking Graham and his team for rescuing the event and we will all look forward to a great weekend in July.
On-Line registration for the championships will open on 11th June and more details will follow in late May.
Statement from PLUSHmtb…
PLUSHmtb will not be hosting the 2018 Irish National DH Championships as previously planned.
Having previously sought & gained consent to construct a bespoke 3.5 min DH track on a private estate … the land-owner has removed us from the venue & ceased work.
The track designer & team had 80% completed the course with only open mountain & finish area to construct.
Although no building has taken place for some weeks now, emails & meetings have been going on for the past month to resolve. The land-owner has agreed to go into new discussions next month with a longer term plan since all the years hard work is not lost … but some pivotal land is currently let until November.
The IDMS co-ordinator is aware of the ongoing situation and we hope a solution for this years champs is found!
