Glencullen Adventure Park (The GAP) are set for the final round of their October Downhill MTB series, with pace setter Ronan Dunne aiming for a clean sweep of wins.
Proving a welcome addition to the Irish MTB calendar, the four-round series has delivered a hit.
With organisers laying out a different course each time there’s been plenty of variety to keep everyone on their toes.
At the head of the field it’s been 16-year-old Ronan Dunne who’s proved the rider to beat.
Following a victory at round one, he’s hasn’t slowed going on to bag three wins from three starts.
Sunday could see him remain undefeated in both the overall and Under 23 categories if things continue to go his way.
Can Dunne Beat Dunne!
Behind him it’s been his older brother Anthony who’s kept him honest. Anthony got close to derailing the Dunne freight train at round three, finishing just over one second behind.
With one last opportunity to make it count, he’ll hope to finally turn the tables on his brother.
In the Senior ranks, Rob Davis has overcome a problem at round one, moving to the top of the standings thanks to a pair of second place results.
Rory O’Donnell and John Belling sit close behind in second and third, meaning it’s all to play for.
The Under 16 class is too close to call. Cillian Doyle holds a four-point lead over Scott Roberts – winner at round three.
Craig Doyle is third, while round one winner Daniel Lappin completes the top four.
Game On For 40+
It’s all to play for in 40+ between Brendan Masterson and Sean Egan. Tied on points, it’ll be a winner-takes-all affair come Sunday.
Finally, Brigitte Egan holds a one-point advantage over Ruth McGinn in the Women category, with Caitriona Brady just a further point behind in third.
For the final championship standings, results will be determined by a best of two from the opening three rounds, plus Sunday’s final.
A revised schedule for Sunday October 27th will see a morning practice take place between 9.30-12.30.
Racing begins at 14.00 sharp followed by a prize giving and end of season party!
