Kerry gets a new lease of MTB life as Shronaboy Farm pull off a stormer for the 2019 Munster Gravity Championships.
Overlooking the lakes of Killarney, the new Shronaboy Farm not only offered one of the most picturesque race settings of Irish mountain biking, but a top-notch race course too.
Gradually taking shape since last winter, and following a few local test runs, the venue went all-in for their first competitive outing, hosting the much-welcomed Munster Gravity Champs.
The format for the day was pretty simple. Practice in the morning, followed by two up-lifted timed runs in the afternoon, with the fastest run counting.
With perfect weather conditions seeing the course completed just under the two-minute barrier for the fastest of riders, up to 76 competitors took to the track.
Cornforth Sets The Benchmark
Topping the time sheets, Olly Cornforth proved top-dog on the day, claiming a one-second margin of victory.
Home favourite and Shronaboy’s own Jason Murphy took the runner-up result.
Davy Oliver completed the top three, while also carding the Junior Men win.
Cathal Hickey and Eoin Grant rounded out the top five.
Sixth, but just five-tenths off Grant, Paul Lenihan was quickest of the Master Men 30-39.
Cahir Media and Colm Keating Photography teamed up to bring you a small snippet of our track on Sunday. Some views.

Coming down the hill in 22nd, Leah Maunsell was fastest in the Open Women Category.
After what’s proved a successful opener, Shronaboy will be back in the racing limelight later this year with three stages for the Grassroots Enduro on September 1st and then also the Irish Downhill Mountainbike Series on September 21/22.
Big congrats to all involved!
