Expert Cycles’ Scott Wallace proved the rider to beat at the penultimate round of the Vitus Bikes Gravity Enduro Ireland Series in Ballyhoura claiming victory.
Heading south to Limerick for the third stop of the Gravity Enduro Ireland Series, Wallace put in a dominant ride to secure the outright Enduro win over teammate Harry Byrne and local favourite Trail Riders IRL Oisin O’Callaghan.
With the current Irish summer weather continuing to play ball once again for Irish Enduro, competitors in Ballyhoura were treated to six dry and dusty stages across a 30 kilometre loop to work up a sweat on.
At the head of the field the fight was on for overall honours. Keen not to be outdone by his younger teammate for the second round on the bounce, Wallace came out swinging on stage one to lead Byrne by one second. Topping stages two and three he extended his advantage further to lead Byrne by about 12 seconds heading into the afternoon.
However, it was O’Callaghan who had the measure of everyone on stages four and five stopping the clocks fastest. But Wallace fought back for a stage six win and with it claim victory in the both the Pro Men and overall classification.
For Byrne hopes of making it two-in-a-row at Ticknock and Ballyhoura didn’t materialise and while ending his day second to Wallace, he would have to be more than happy with securing victory in the Under 21 Men category.
Thanks to his two stage wins, 15-year-old O’Callaghan edged out Mech Monkey’s Drew Armstrong by two seconds for third overall, while taking a convincing win in the Junior Men class.
So happy to take the win today and get 3rd overall plus Super stoked to get fastest on stage 4 and 5. Once again the @trekbikes gets me another good result and the @fox suspension being supple as ever🔥🤙🏻 • • #shimanomtb #mudhugger #mudhugger2 #oakley #oakleybike #saddleback_ltd #crankbrothers #trekbikes #ridefoxuk #foxmtb #ridefox #dtswiss #weridecb #nadura_clinic #tld_bike #officialleatt #leatt #ridebontrager
With Armstrong fourth outright for runner-up in the Under 21 Men, Peter Davison (Velo Cafe Magasin) finished less than one second behind to complete the outright top five and place as runner-up in Pro Men.
The final round of the Gravity Enduro Ireland Series takes place at Carrick Mountain, Wicklow on September 8/9.
