The five-round championship, held as one day events, operates a unique blind race format meaning no practice day before racing. Riders can however attempt the stages numerous times within the time allowance.
With three stages to complete, there was plenty to keep the 137 entry entertained.
Congratulations to Paul McLoughlin on his win and fastest time of the day in the first round of the Grassroots Enduro…
McLoughlin on winning form
Mastering the format and conditions best, Paul McLoughlin (Bespoke Cycles) claimed the outright win along with winning the Over 40 category.
Going toe-to-toe with Elite class rider Jonathan Maunsell (Team Ballyhoura), the duo tied for time on the opening stage.
Doing the damage in stage two, McLoughlin edged out a nine-second advantage. Maunsell pulled two seconds back on the final stage but it wasn’t enough to turn the tables.
Racing his way to a top three result, Emmet Callaghan (IMBRC) placed just nine seconds behind Maunsell for third, while also taking the Youth class honours.
Three seconds adrift of Callaghan, Oisin O’Callaghan (IMBC) was fourth and runner-up in the Youths.
Kyle Lawson (Dirty Hobbits) completed the top five, while also grabbing the Under 30 class win.

Muldoon masters the mud
In the Female class, Michele Muldoon (Flow MTB) claimed an eight-second margin of victory over Leah Maunsell (Team Ballyhoura) with Lorraine O’Sullivan (KMBC) third.
“It’s been five months since my last race, the Redbull Foxhunt, so to end last season on a win and to start this season on a win is a real confidence boost for me,” told Michelle Muldoon.
“Overall I’m happy with how the race went, I certainly didn’t think I had done enough to take the win and to finish 34th overall so I was pretty surprised when handed my results. It was a great way to start the season, and is rewarding to see the hours I put in over the winter paying off.”
The Grassroots Enduro Series continues with round two in Bike Park Ireland, Tipperary in three weeks time on April 29.
