The hunt is back on for 2018 when the Red Bull Foxhunt returns to Rostrevor on October 6/7. And to really put some bark among the hounds, our very own Greg Callaghan joins Gee Atherthon and Loic Bruni as one of the Foxes.
Promising to be bigger than ever, a total of 550 entries have been allocated for this year’s race, meaning one thing – more riders equals more carnage.
A winner of the race back in 2012, Greg is pumped on getting the opportunity to do the hunting and not be hunted this time around…
“I’ve never been a Fox before so I’m kind of scared! There are so many riders there and it’s at home so I’ll probably know half of them and I can’t be too mean to them.
“Anyone I take out will know exactly where to come to see me afterwards. But the Foxhunt is a great weekend of riding and it’s a really unique buzz.”
Greg of course will be joined by two of Downhill’s greats, Gee Atherton and Loic Bruni.
“I think of all the Foxhunts I’ve done, last year was the toughest and the best racing,” tells Gee. “It was wet and slippery and there were bodies and bikes flying everywhere. It was the most overtakes I’d ever done in a run, so I absolutely loved it and definitely looking forward to racing it again this year.”
Foxhunt is definitely my favourite event,” says Loic. “It’s not so much about racing as it is about fun. Sometimes, even if you don’t mean to, you accidentally make people crash, but the people are just laughing! They just love the ride and it’s definitely an event I’m really looking forward to at the end of the season.”
Entries for the 2018 Red Bull Foxhunt open Wednesday, August 1st at 12pm.
