Cycling Ireland Off-Road Commission have confirmed that full face helmets will be compulsory for all competitors contesting Enduro mountain bike competition from 2020 onwards.
The news was confirmed following the Cycling Ireland AGM on Saturday November 23, along with a additional change in category.
For 2019 full face helmets were made compulsory for competitors under the age of 16, while encouraging others to follow suit.
Following that, and with consideration to the increased technical difficulty of stages in recent years, it was decided to enforce the ruling across the board.
Now, approved full face and helmets with removable chin pieces will only be accepted – naturally, the chin piece must be engaged for the stage element of competition.
Additionally the 17/21 years category is now recognised by Cycling Ireland as an official category.
This will include the National Championships bringing Ireland in line with the Enduro World Series.
The categories either side will adjust accordingly.
The official wording of the rule changes will be published in the 2020 competition regulations.
