The Cuchulainn Off-Road Club will kick off their 2019 season in style with the first edition of Ed Fest to officially launch their new trail ELC at Ravensdale, Co. Louth
After months of hard winter graft and trail fairy action, the Cuchulainn crew have decided to cut the ribbon on their new ELC trail with an MTB sesh on March 10.
A low-key affair with an emphasis on fun and craic, the day itself is being held to honour the recent passing of their club member Ed Lenox Cunningham.
One of the good ‘uns, Ed was a total bike nut. He won one of the early editions of the club’s XC summer league and was an active member.
Ed Fest itself will feature a morning XC Race in ELC, followed by two timed enduro runs in the afternoon.
There’s also plans for an MTB ‘bring ’n buy’ jumble sale, with all money raised going towards local youth cycling development, something Ed would have wanted.
Ed’s wife Lindis will be on hand with chili, cake and bacon sarnies to feed the masses – but additional buns are always welcome.
ELC is a beginner-to-intermediate trail. It offers an ideal mix of challenging forestry trail, open tracks and woodland berms with technical rocky drops and short punchy climbs. About 1.3km in length, estimated time is about five minutes.
With ELC also expected to form the opening stage of the 2019 Vitus First Tracks Enduro Cup on April 6-7, Ed Fest’s timing is perfect for those seeking a few cheeky race miles.
