If you’re looking to give your pre-season training a boost or want to give competitive mountain biking a try, then having a crack at the Biking Blitz is something to consider.
Now in its ninth edition, the Coillte Biking Blitz Series kicks off in February with events taking place in Wicklow, Limerick, Galway and Dublin.
The Biking Blitz is basically a mass start cross-country mountain bike event, aimed primarily at beginners, but with something for everyone to get stuck into.
There are two categories, “Baggy Shorts” for beginners or “Super Pro” for more experienced riders, plus youth categories from U6 to U18 and even a strider category too.
All-Weather MTB Trails
The series uses popular Coillte built mountain bike trail centres, ensuring a fast flowing course in all weather conditions.
Ballinastoe, Ballyhoura, Derroura and finally Ticknock are all on the schedule, so top-notch trails are guaranteed.
For the Baggy Shorts class the course lengths vary from 14 kilometres at round one to a leg-tightening 22 kilometres at the final round in Ticknock.
The Super Pro Category sees their distance almost doubled per round.
Whether you just want to have a bit of craic or win-it-to-win-it, you can be sure of a good day out your bike.
